Site Remediation
GEO completed a fast track remediation project to install a multi-layer cap over a 1.9 acre site containing the demolition materials generated from the removal of munitions facilities that dated to World War II. The site contained arsenic, lead, selenium, and vanadium in the surface and subsurface soils. Contamination extended to approximately 15 feet below the surface. GEO constructed a 400 foot diversion ditch to divert storm water around the contaminated soils, installed approximately 10,000 cubic yards of fill material, including a two foot thick compacted clay layer, with 6 to 12 inches of topsoil, and seeded the site with native grasses. It was necessary to schedule the project around the nesting cycles of the Indiana bat, a protected species. GEO will perform long term maintenance of the site as well as monitor groundwater wells installed under a separate contract.
